NVIDIA May Stop Bundling Memory with GPU Kits Amid GDDR Shortage

NVIDIA is rumored to be changing its approach by supplying only the raw silicon to its AIC partners, rather than bundling its usual GPU and memory kit. Typically, GPU manufacturers like NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel provide their GPU dies with GDDR memory to AIC partners as a kit. These partners then solder the components onto their custom PCBs, often modifying the layout and cooling systems. However, according to Golden Pig Upgrade, NVIDIA might halt this practice and supply only the bare silicon dies due to memory shortages affecting the company's ability to meet orders.
Recently, AMD informed its supply chain of an impending price increase across its entire GPU product line by about 10%. This decision is primarily driven by a significant memory shortage, which has led to soaring DRAM prices and reduced profit margins for GPU manufacturers. AMD's AIB partners have been advised of the planned 10% price hike, and it is expected that AIBs will follow suit in the coming weeks to maintain their margins. However, this now adds to the entire confusion of DRAM shortage, especially for GPUs.
AIC partners are now supposedly responsible for sourcing their own DRAM from memory manufacturers such as Micron, SK Hynix, and Samsung. The success of AICs in acquiring DRAM will depend on their relationships with these memory makers and their ability to secure sufficient capacity at reasonable prices. For NVIDIA, this strategy might allow the company to ship its GeForce RTX 50-series Founders Edition GPUs without facing shortages or issues, while also ensuring adequate capacity for its "Rubin CPX" and "Vera Rubin" server products.
Objavila sa zaujímavá šepkanda...v skratke, nV teraz svoje čipy predáva partnerom v jednom balíčku s VRAM, oni potom všetko naletujú na svoje PCB osadia chladenie a predajú. Teraz vraj nV už bude dodávať len GPU čip a pamäte si majú vybaviť sami, takže nV na jednej strane bude mať dostatok pre svoje vlastné produkty, ale Asus, MSI a spol. budú draho zháňať na vlastné náklady. Takže cena ,,, asi nezlacnie. AMD už nedávno ohlásilo zvýšenie cien o 10% v celom dodávateľskom reťazci, takže tam bude tiež veselo.
