Problems with Intel CPUs
A flaw in some 64-bit operating systems and virtualization software programs are vulnerable to local privilege escalation attacks.
The problem only happens when running on Intel processors, the US Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) announced today. The hole, dubbed CVE-2012-0217, stems from the way Intel CPUs have implemented the SYSRET instruction in their x86-64 extension, known as Intel 64.
Crackers could exploit the vulnerability to force Intel CPUs to return a general protection fault in privileged mode. This would give them power to execute code with kernel privileges from a least-privileged account, or to escape from a virtual machine and gain control of the host operating system.
The vulnerability can only be exploited on Intel CPUs when the Intel 64 extension is in use. Some of the operating systems confirmed as vulnerable so far include x64-based versions of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the 64-bit versions of FreeBSD and NetBSD, the Xen virtualisation software, as well as Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.

Novinku dnes nemáme pouze u mého oblíbeného AMD, ale konečně také něco zas uniklo Intelu . Kdy se dočkáme procesoru Ivy Bridge-E? Původní plány hovořily o 1Q 2013, nicméně z důvodu dominance SB-E v nejvyšším top highendu není třeba tolik spěchat a ještě procesory IB-E nejspíš doladit k dokonalosti. Odhaduji, že se setkáme v případě XE verzí nejen s 6-jádry (12 vláken), ale dokonce s 8-jádrem (16 pracovních vláken!).
Vidíme, že nás také zasypou extrémní verze i7-39xx, prvně model i7-3970X a nejspíš pak ještě i7-3980x. Naopak nástup procesoru Haswell bude o měsíc uspíšen než se čekalo. Dočkáme se jich už na počátku prvního čtvrtletí. Nevím však, na kolik budou uživatelé SB/IB nuceni měnit desku i procesor (LGA 1150), obě generace procesorů budou mít i tou dobou výkonu nadbytek.

Nyní probíha IDF a Intel poodhalil pár věcí ohledně Haswellu. Takže:
Since the world's largesty chipmaker has demonstrated Haswell chips for a number of times already, this time the company will likely show it working. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that the company will discuss performance benefits of the new micro-architecture in details.
Intel Haswell microprocessors for mainstream desktops and laptops will be structurally similar to existing Core i-series "Sandy Bridge" and "Ivy Bridge" chips and will continue to have two or four cores with Hyper-Threading technology along with graphics adapter that shares last level cache (LLC) with processing cores and works with memory controller via system agent. The processors that belong to the Haswell generation will continue to rely on dual-channel DDR3/DDR3L memory controller with DDR power gating support to trim idle power consumption. The chip will have three PCI Express 3.0 controllers, Intel Turbo Boost technology with further improvements and so on.
On the micro-architectural level the chip will be a lot dissimilar compared to available solutions. It is believed that the new Haswell x86 micro-architecture will be substantially different from existing, which will enable further scalability and performance increases. Besides, Haswell will support numerous new instructions, including AVX2, bit manipulation instructions, FPMA (floating point multiple accumulate) and others. The new graphics core based on Denlow architecture is projected to support such new features as DirectX 11.1, OpenGL 3.2+, to be substantially more powerful and to be certified to run numerous professional applications.
Intel Haswell chips also implement a number of aggressive measures to trim power consumption, including power aware interrupt routing for power/performance optimizations, configurable TDP and LPM, DDR power gating, power optimizer (CPPM) support, idle power improvements, latest power states, etc.
Now Intel tells its partners to expect that Haswell should end up at least 10 percent faster than Ivy Bridge based cores at the same clock. These numbers are based on pre-silicon projections that Intel always does before it gets the working prototype back, but since we are some month away from the IDF 2012 in San Francisco, we are quite sure that we will see Haswell again, much closer to its final design, and we even expect to see Broadwell prototypes to hit at least one of the keynotes.
Intel also hints at enhanced based overclocking and end user tunability, which sounds promising to many enthusiasts. If all goes well for Intel, Haswell should be quite a nice piece of hardware once it ships in Q2 2013.

Znie to rozhodne ako kec, pripadne maju nekompletne udaje. Standardna DDR3 - dimm ale aj so-dimm - ma 64bitovy interface. Na dual channel so 128 bitmi treba dva kusy. na 512bitovy radic by ich bolo treba az 8. Iba ak by mali iny druh ram nez DDR3.

Az teraz citam. Multi-cipove puzdro. Ak tie RAMky vyrobi intel procesom 32 alebo menej nm tak by mohlo ist o "die shrink" toho co je dostupne dnes ako DDR3. Ak by stacilo 8 pamatovych cipov "zlepenych" alebo kazdy samostatne, kazdy so svojim 64bit rozhranim tak by sa to dalo
Ale aj tak mam pochybnosti o vykone. Intel sice najviac tratil na tom ze nikdy nevyrobil dedikovanu grafiku, ale vykon shaderov od intelu nikdy nebol nic moc.

aždopádně taková HD4000 už je vcelku použitelná...je tak na 60-70% Llana HD6550D, což je slušné. A na Llanu se už opravdu tak nějak rozumně zahraješ (hry 2008-2010 snad i na full detaily v HD/FHD, novější na střední detaily bez AA v HD)

Haswell refresh je dle posledních informací pouze uvedení více modelů non K a u top modelů se dočkáme +100 MHz a toť vše :-/. Nicméně měly by prý nastoupit už v květnu. I desky čipsetu Z97, které také neohromí, protože údajně jejich novinka SATA Expres se odkládá na čipset budoucí.

Ne mnoho lidí potěší informace o Skylike...Nový socket se jmenuje LGA1151, tedy +1 pin v desce navíc ...
Plán pro Skylike je odvážný, mluví se o konci roku 2015, Broadwell by se tedy příliš neohřál.
