Má nVidia už v predaji 55nm GeForce GTX280 ?

A suspicious new model of the flagship GeForce GTX 280 made by Leadtek going by the name ‘GeForce GTX 280 Extreme’ is put on pre-order on the popular British computer component online store Overclockers UK (OCUK). It can be found here. There are some hints that point toward this being based on a 55nm core:

Extremely high parameters such as 738 MHz core, 1666 MHz shader domain and 2520 MHz memory albeit GDDR3, traditionally Leadtek doesn’t offer such high manufacturer overclock for even its premium variants.

Such insanely high parameters cannot be reached by a manufacturer on reference cooling, for example, even the EVGA e-GeForce GTX 280 HC (liquid-cooled) comes with 670 MHz core, 1458MHz shader domain and 2430 MHz memory.

Although traditionally OCUK isn’t very discount-friendly, and that this is a premium GTX 280 variant, that still doesn’t warrant a whopping £387.74 (US $771.29) price-tag.

The Leadtek website neither has a product entry for this nor is it part of any of their press-releases leading us to believe it’s an upcoming product. With such parameters, it only puzzles us if it indeed is the GT200b making for ‘UFO sightings’ in the markets.

Iste, to je vsetko pekne, ale "tu sa predava" je velmi silne slovo.

To nehovori nic o tom, ze kedy bude realne karta dostupna. Zober si napr. GABA a Freezer Extreme. Ohlasene to bolo snad uz pred 2 mesiacmi, uz dost dlho sa na nu caka a doba dodania bude snad okolo 20. jula... Proste to, ze sa nieco objavi v cenniku na predobjednavku este nic neznamena. Mozno to bude na trhu buduci tyzden, mozno o 3 mesiace.

It is said that NVIDIA possible cancel G200b and to release new G3x0. It will integrate 384SP and it will use 45nm technology. Its power consumption will cut a lot than G200. Its clocks will be improved to 850/2000MHz. It will match 1GB 256bit GDDR5 memory and the clock will be more than 4000MHz. It will defeat 4870X2.

We've learned that Nvidia might be ready with its 55nm version of GT200 sooner than we expected. GT200 55nm might come out weeks after Radeon HD 4870 X2 aka R700 dual chip card.


Nvidia taped out the 55nm GT200 a few months back and we believe that launching 65nm version first made more financial sense for them as they wanted to probe the market and see if ATI actually has a decent chip to compare.

We don’t have any fixed dates but the GT200 55nm might show up very soon. GT200 with some higher clock and especially higher Shader clock could easily give much more performance compared to a standard 65nm GT200. Let's wait and see.

Our sources are telling us that 55nm version of the chip should be ready either in late August or in September which means that Radeon HD 4870 X2 will get some competition.

We believe that Shaders and clock of 55nm GT200 are definitely going to be higher than the 65nm and the chip itself should be a bit cooler.

This means R700 will get some better competition and the fact that this ATI’s dual card is going to end of faster than GTX 280, doesn’t mean ATI has already won the war.

Nvidia launches GeForce GTX 280 55nm @ Nvision 08

Recently we published an article stating the top 10 reasons to attend NVISION 2008. Well you can now add an 11th reason. *** has learned that NVIDIA will launch the 55nm successor to the GeForce GTX 280 at NVISION 08. We previously had our suspicions that the launch would be at NVISION. If you remember in the past NVIDIA has launched other GPUs at GeForce LAN, which is still a part of NVISION, although the scope of the event is much broader than just a large LAN party.

This visual computing mega-event will be held in San Jose, California from August 25th-27th. According to NVIDIA the host and main sponsor of the event: "NVISION will gather together top visual computing professionals, world-class gamers, innovative artists and designers, and cutting-edge researchers to share their ideas, experiences, and passions."

Apparently NVIDIA was simply giving 55nm a test run with the newly released GeForce 9800 GTX+. Now they will implement the shrinkage to their GeForce GTX 280 and 260 GPUs. Expect the clock, shader, and possibly memory speeds to increase. Although the name is still being finalized it is safe to assume it will carry something like the GeForce GTX 280+ moniker.

When ATI releases their Radeon 4870 X2 in mid August they will certainly have one hot product on their hands. Be rest assured however, that ATI will have very tough competition in the high end segment with the release NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 280+ (if that is what it will be called). It has been important to NVIDIA to have a high end product released around the time schools start again. Expect the pricing war to be very fierce right from launch this time around.

Nvidia GT200b @ 648/1620 MHz? 1166 Gflops

It looks like Nvidia's GT200-Refresh GT200b has got at the Top-Version up to 1200 Gflops. The Shader-Ratio shall go back to 2.5x and the GT200-Chips has got 54 MHz-steps by the shaderfrequency. So an realistisc option is 648/1620 MHz.
