AMD plánovala v každom prípade lepšie od roku 2008 ako nVidia. Vydanie najprv mainstream GPUs sa mi vidí teda ako logický krok, keďže odpadnutie 32nm procesu @ TSMC sa dotklo oboch veľkých IHVs a ich plánovaných high-end čipov. 384bit zbernica v prípade Caymanu by bolo imho mierne prekvapenie, ale nič nemožné. Chiphell mal v minulosti naozaj v 90% pravdu, tak je pravdepodobné, že im to vyjde aj teraz.

btw: plánovaný 32nm čip od AMD sa teraz nazýva Northern Islands.

AMD confirms new DirectX 11 GPUs by 2011

Radeon HD 6000 launch in late October

We have heard from several sources that the next generation Radeon HD 6000 series, also known under the Northern Islands codename is about to launch in late October time.

All the reports indicate that the new generation is actually a tweaked up design of Radeon HD 5000 and as far as we know, ATI didn’t dramatically improve the tessellation performance. As you probably know by now tessellation is the only big advantage that Nvidia has over DirectX 11 Radeons. The whole generation is naturally faster than the Radeon HD 5000.

The main press event is supposed to take place in glorious Los Angeles in week 43, that starts October 18th, but this is something that we have yet to confirm.

HD 6000 series reportedly pushed back to November

Digitimes is reporting that AMD has postponed the planned HD 6000 series by a few weeks.
The cards were reportedly supposed to launch on October 12, but it appears that we won’t see them till November.
However, it’s worth noting that Nvidia has already cut Fermi pricing several times this year.
The GTX 460, which is arguably Nvidia’s most competitive card at the moment, is a good example.
When it launched it retailed at €199, which quickly went down to €179 and then in went even lower, quite a bit lower in fact.
At the moment, the GTX 460 is available for just €130 in some European markets.

Update: Minutes after posting the story we were informed by some people in the know that the launch will indeed go ahead as planned.
We can expect some fresh and tasty Radeons in two weeks, but mass availability should probably be expected sometime in November.
As for Nvidia's price cuts, well it's not like they have much choice.
